EOS 40D users: pls help with converting CR2 files

I am pleased as punch with my new EOS40D, however I have a problem with converting my raw files to any regular format. The format my camera now spits out is CR2 whereas the old one (300D / Digital Rebel) used CRW. My Microsoft RAW Image Viewer doesn't know how to handle this. If I right-click onto a CR2 file and choose "open with" and the viewer, it doesn't work.

I'm sure this is something minor but I'm beginning to feel like and idiot! Any ideas? Do I have to suck it up and use Canon's horrid software?

depending on what you use to edit your images, theres photoshop elements or photoshop itself amongst a few others. Have you checked to see if theres an updated version of the raw viewer? I dont care too much for MS software, too often its bloatware. I would suggest http://www.soft3k.com/Free-RAW-Viewer-p12571.htm as a cr2 viewer
